People Section Up, Newsletter Feature, Site Complete!

Dave
  • Howdy,

    Just went through the PHP on the about page, author page, and the ‘people’ page. Now when you register, like all of you should, you will see your picture in the people section! Also, added a nifty re-Captcha gadget that prevents spam by having people assist the process of digitizing books by deciphering certain words cannot be read into the OCR. After a ceratin percentage of users solve the ‘uknown’ word the same way it is assumed that it is the correct spelling of the word. This helps digitize books, giving users a reason to solve reCAPTCHA forms. Lastly, installed an autonotification system that will send emails out to all subscribers with all the latest posts.

    Also, added a ‘users online’ feature so you guys can see who else is being awesome at the moment. This is recorded in a statistical analysis, so we can tell what AMSA events spark your interest. This will hopefully give us some tools for gauging the quality of our events.

    This site is now complete!

    AMSA Spring Break Trip to Mexico

    Dave
  • Race, Ethnicity and Culture in Health AMSA Action Committee

    This past spring break, seven AMSA members traveled down to Michoacán, Mexico with the objective of promoting education and health habits in rural areas. The seven students worked diligently on this project for almost a year, collecting as much school and hygienic supplies as they could to then donate them among the population of Villa Morelos. Finally this past spring break they saw the good results of their arduous work.The following students partook in the project: Scott Sniffin, Ara-Danielle Uniza, Tatiana Manayan, Sergio Soto, Ashley Bumbar, Mayra Hernandez and Yanelli Nunez, who coordinated the event.

    Here’s the pics - enjoy!!

    Photos with your Comments and Login Field

    Dave
  • thanks to the “userphoto_comment_author_thumbnail()” command, we now have our pictures next to our comments!!

    also, wrote this ridiculous script to get the comments to link to your own page on our site. php blows:

    <?php
    $cAuthName= get_comment_author();
    $cAuthID = get_userdatabylogin($cAuthName)->ID;
    $urlString = “?author=$cAuthID”;
    ?>

    <a href=”<?php echo $urlString ?>” >
    <?php comment_author() ?>
    </a>

    Also added a convenient ‘login’ form on the left side of the page.

    Enough procrastinating, back to studying neuro…

    More New Stuff

    Dave
  • set up a php script that will work for the people page. that way when you change your profile pic or bio in your user settings page, it will automatically update here.

    also changed the look to be more sdsu/ish. although the logo office strictly prohibited this from happening since we are “not a university operation.” what do they know?! we run this biatch!

    oh, and also set up an ‘author’ php, so when you click on the author of a posts name, it goes to their bio and lists their other posts. nifty swifty

    heres what it used to look like

    Site Updates

    Dave
  • Ok, now we can add photos and they will appear where we post. Reformatted the header to display date, name, category next to the photo (had to fight through an angry mob of css and php).

    Also added a cropping feature that will allow user to post their photo and then crop it, to focus face into the preset thumbnail size.

    Added a box around each post cuz it looks nice.

    Next steps:

    • use new photo feature to create a ‘people’ page
    • interface media page with our flicker/photobucket/whatever
